Zithromax containing Azithromycin, an antibiotic macrolide, is used in the treatment of various infections of the respiratory tract and soft tissue. Macrolides inhibit the protein synthesis in bacteria, thereby stopping their growth and the infection from spreading further, while the remaining bacteria are killed by the bodys immune system or perish naturally since they are deprived of protein and cannot grow.
